I found this at the library in a huge book of fairytales, and I loved it.

There's been so many versions of the story, and I've read so many kinds, but I think I've read the original.

Go fairytales!!!!

The beautiful and very well-known fairy tale suprised me when I realised that I grew up with the story of the adaptations. There are so many differences, for instance the siblings of Beauty. The fairy tale is nevertheless still wonderful.

My favorite fairytale-from Robin McKinley's lyrical variations, to C. S. Lewis's epic "Till We Have Faces." It's always good to read an original (see also East o' the Sun and West o' the Moon and Cupid and Psyche,Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady, etc.)

• Read for Literary Studies. Favorite quote; ‘Yes, yes, said the Beast, my heart is good, but still I am a monster. Among mankind, says Beauty, there are many that deserve that name more than you; and I prefer you, just as you are, to those who, under a human form, hide a treacherous, corrupt, and ungrateful heart’.

First of all, does this even count as a book? I mean, it was only 48 pages! Took me all of about an hour to read (if that).
This was one I snagged as a free download on my kindle. Basically just the bare bones Beauty and the Beast story, which of course is always an enjoyable, timeless read. It was nice, but I prefer some of the other, more "fleshed out" "retellings" of the story I've read.

Lovely. Beauty is almost enlightened throughout most of the story, almost something of a stoic ideal. If you can look past the hilarious ending, you're left with a wonderful tale, worth reading even if you've already enjoyed previous adaptations.
