As with all of Clare's novels, it is a one-sitting read, despite its length; I couldn't put it down. The characters are complex, flawed, interesting, humorous, brave, and easy to love (or hate); the story is wholly engrossing; and the references to nerd culture were pleasing. Adventure, mystery, humor, friendships, familial backstories, romantic tension: everything I could ask for in a book, and certainly one I'll recommend to all my friends. It's campy but delightful.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy this fully. I've tried reading this series for years. I finally pushed myself when I bought the box set (book buying problems).
I've seen the movie and the TV Show and I love both even though a lot of people hate the show, I'm obsessed with it.
The book was extremely slow paced and kind of boring at points, if I didn't know about the rest of the series I probably wouldn't have bothered with this book. I'm going to push through the next book to get to the 'good ones'.
All together it wasn't horrible, just not the best. I love the characters but felt like the plot of the series beginning could be better

Cassandra Clare has created a mystifying world that I find that I just want to jump right into the pages on the book and be a part of, I loved every single page of this book.

CITY OF BONES would be the second book series I started after Twilight and it was amazing. I mean the world that we are thrown into is just so cool. CITY OF BONES is a fantasy, adventure, and romance and it takes you on a ride to experience things you thought were never possible. I love every single character in this book. I have a place in my heart for each one. The dialogue is funny and you can't help but laugh out loud.

We have our heroine Clary who doesn't even know about this world, but it is actually so much apart of her and she finds out her mother has been keeping secrets about who she is, what she is. Clary was a fun character. And Jace our lovely hero is just as fun if not more. He is one of the reasons I love this series so much. Bas boy where we see my than just a bad-boy there. I think I like the direction where Jace's character is heading. We have a lot of funny dialogue from this character that he is the reason I laugh all the time.
"One of the Silent Brothers is here to see you. Hodge sent me to wake you up. Actually he offered to wake you himself, but since it's 5 a.m., I figured you'd be less cranky if you had something nice to look at." "Meaning you?" "What else?"

We get shadowhunters, angels, demons, vampires, werewolves, faeries...is that all, I'm not sure right now, but it is so cool how all these supernatural creatures are perceived in this book. Like what role they play and you come upon some secrets that have been kept from Clary that make you wonder with insanity what will happen next, especially with the characters. I mean each characters has the relationship with another character and I'd like to see what is going to happen with the character development next.

With the ending I think the next book is better than this book. I mean after finishing this book you will be out rushing to get your hands on the next book in this intriguing series. Look forward to my review of City of Ashes coming soon and Please check out The Mortal Instruments series. It is highly recommended, Cassandra Clare is a genius.

this definitely doesn’t deserve 4 stars but it has such a special place in my heart that it’s getting 4 stars okay. the dynamic between jace and clary is *chefs kiss* and the kiss scene is genuinely my favourite kiss scene in any book. i literally just reread it as therapy when im sad. anyways i have many mixed feelings about this series but i will always love love love this one.
i read it i think 4 times now (it was only the fourth time that i actually managed to complete the rest of the series lol) and every aspect of it just brings back that *one of the first ya fantasy series i’ve read 11 year old wonder and excitement* and i won’t apologise for loving this.

I've read this book so many times and I still love it as much as I did the first time I read it. I was about 14/15 years old and I was in love. Now I’m 20 years old and this has become of one my favorite books and series. This will always have a special place in my heart.
