This is a beautiful book! Highly recommend the audiobook because hearing the author’s story in his own words was powerful. The prose was gorgeous.

I don't often read memoirs. The pace was slower than I'm used to. I think he's a good writer, it's just not for me.

This is a memoir, then, but it is also the story of an ecosystem - of some land, the lives lived on it, and the dreams that unfolded here.

From the very first pages, it is already very clear that this man is genuinely in love with nature. His words and sentences vividly describe his connection with it and emphasize just how important nature is to him. I still found myself struggling to truly enjoy reading this though. This is sadly just not the kind of book I usually read and I only picked this up for a class in school.
Nevertheless, I can acknowledge that it was otherwise well written, and had the best acknowledgement I've read in any book so far - very touching.

A memoir of the author’s life, always connected back to nature. Some poetry sprinkled in with essays about different people in his life and his “home place”. Connecting each part of his life back to the land. Mostly focused on his younger years, with the last quarter about his life after leaving home.

I wonder if I would have liked this book better if I had read it vs listened to the audiobook. There’s a lot of interesting content here, but unfortunately the author’s somewhat monotone reading of it made it fall flat for me. I also wanted to hear more in depth content, but often the book felt like it was just skimming the surface. Hoping to see more from this author in the future where I can hear him dive deeper into any of the topics in this book.
