Reminds me of a cross between Anna Karenina and The Hours. Sad, desperate, lonely.

Setting/World Building: 5/5
Main Character: 4/5
Other Characters: 3/5 (mostly they were background people)
Plot: 5/5
Writing: 5/5
Triggering/Issues: 4/5 (Cheating, but it didn't trigger me too much, also marital issues.)

AVERAGED TOTAL: 4.3/5, rounded down to 4.

This is definitely my favorite book that I've read so far for my American Novel class. I remember reading this when I was younger, but it didn't speak to me the same way that it did now. I know that's because older!me is also post!divorce me... and post!divorce me really, really understood Edna. So much so that there were times I had to put the book down because it hit too close to home in a discomforting way. All in all I think this book is a fascinating reveal of a woman trapped in a life she was never really meant to, despite the dictates of society; a woman who in the end, finally found a way to take control.
