I truly dont think there has been another book that had kept me at the edge of my seat from the very SECOND i started reading like this book has. I was enchanted by the characters, the craziness and the goofiness and the fact that I never knew where the story was going but all I knew was that I sure in HELL needed to know. And of course, anyone who has been a fangirl, you just KNOW. This book is definitely one of my favourites that I am for sure going to be sharing with everyone and #1 on my recommendation list.

Didn't finish the book I'm on page 121, too disgusting. Don't buy it or even think.

This was probably the funniest book I have read in a really long time. I was literally laughing out loud so much when listening to this in the car. This honestly would have been a 5 star book, but there was just 1 super cheesy section that I kept rolling my eyes at.

It's definitely a stab at One Direction and it's crazy fangirls and it's hilarious.

A bunch of fangirls accidentally kidnapping a boy band member? Who knew this book would actually end up being a dark humor that was absolutely hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times, it was just so terrible. Like when someone says an offensive joke that you know is bad but you still find it funny. This book was pretty much that, in a very good way.

Kill the Boy Band starts with our narrator and her three friends getting a room in a hotel where their favorite boy band, The Ruperts are going to be staying. The Ruperts of course being pretty much based off of One Direction. These four girls are just complete stalkers for these boys, they go through so much just for a quick glimpse of them. So it only makes sense when they end up accidentally kidnapping one. Of course.

So when I opened the door, Apple was there, just as I'd expected, but she was out of breath and holding Rupert P.'s ankle in her fist, the rest of him draped on the floor behind her, limp as the sack of coal Santa brings for the naughty kids.

"I found one," she said.

And that was how my three friends and I came to be in the possession of our very own boy bander.

Fandom is a great and wonderful thing but sometimes you have to ask yourself, how deep do you really want to get? While the fangirls here are ridiculously extreme, loving something a lot obviously isn't inherently bad, until you go too far.
"Maybe obsessing over a boy band is stupid. But so what? You say that us fans are the worst thing that's happened to society. But all we're doing is loving cute boys. Is that really so bad?"

"Fans have turned love into something medieval."

"But that's love. It's crazy and great."

Honestly I have a lot of quotes of the funny banter between the friends and I could fill up a whole review of them if I wanted to. I found so many lines of dialogue, and their situations really funny. Things were pretty ridiculous and out-there but still, I enjoyed it. The book did get a bit darker as it went on but the humor didn't let up, even when the narrator was starting to look unreliable.

I understand the criticism of others about certain things though but with this book, I feel like you'll either find it really hilarious like I did, or you'll just end up hating it.

For the past several months I have been in a rather deep and annoying reading slump and I feel that most of the books I have reviewed this year thus far have made that pretty evident (plus I think I am currently burned out when it comes to fantasy YA). I got Kill The Boy Band as a reward for myself and had no intention of reviewing it. The title and simplistic cover immediately grabbed my attention and the summary instantly drew me in. Because of my reading slump, I figured it would take me at least a week to get through it, but surprisingly (and for the first time in a very long time), I practically devoured this book in one sitting. Kill The Boy Band gives a pretty accurate description of modern fangirls and the insanity that goes along with being obsessed with a boy band these days. The way Goldy Moldavsky described the community and the bonds (that are also easily broken) was spot on. That means that the majority of the story is actually pretty believable. Even though it was pretty dark it still managed to also be very funny and had me actually laughing and chuckling out loud multiple times. Also, I think that if you enjoyed this but would like something much darker, you should read [b:Boring Girls|22750458|Boring Girls|Sara Taylor|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1408469857s/22750458.jpg|42295727] by [a:Sara Taylor|13392725|Sara Taylor|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1427185837p2/13392725.jpg].

I actually really enjoyed this book. I thought it was going to be a little juvenile or at least annoying but it was a great mystery case with a look at what it means to be a true fangirl. I liked Sloane (the name I'll call our main character since I don't think her true one was ever mentioned). She was me in the sense that she was the only sane one and I could relate to her feelings. I would've thought all my friends were crazy and probably would have tried to let Rupert P. go. I also am the friend who doesn't usually take control of situations so I found Sloane very relatable. I also found the whole fangirl aspect relatable. While I have never been obsessed with boy bands (such as 1D or 5SOS which I believe the Ruperts were based off of), I have been (and still am) in my fair share of fandoms. I could relate to Sloane's love of fanfiction and the small things like when she said a gif of her favorite person smiling could turn her day around. And I could definitely relate to how I find something that makes me happy and hold on for dear life. I never thought about it thought way before but I think that's what being a fangirl is for me. If I can find a sliver of happiness, why the hell would I not want to ride it out? Although I agree with the Civil War Bartender when he said that these obsessions never last, why not make them last as long as you're able? I look back at all the things (whether books, TV shows, bands, etc) I've ever obsessed over completely for a while that would make me so happy and wonder when my attention for it started to drift. I would remember how happy something so simple could make me feel and I feel sad that it no longer has the same hold over me. Nothing lasts forever but I'm sure as hell going to make this shit last for as long as possible just like Sloane said. But I also agree with the girls' final conclusion: these people that others spend so much time and effort worshipping are just that. People. No different from you or me except they happened to become famous somehow or the other. People have so much talent they could spend on much more productive things than the latest boy band, but hey, I can't judge others and am definitely not going to make people stop doing things that make them happy. That's all that matters. Anyway, I enjoyed the characters in this novel and loved the fast-paced storyline. I could not put it down. A great mystery sprinkled with truths that will definitely have you thinking on what it truly means to be a fan.

Kill The Boyband is een uniek boek. Nooit eerder las ik zo'n bizar, maar toegankelijk verhaal over fans van een boyband. Binnen een dag uitgelezen, maar ik moet het verloop nog even laten bezinken.
