A mystery solving CPA who knits! The perfect light distracting read for when you're cooped up with a kitten who's wearing a cone and recovering from surgery and is not really interested in staying "quiet" for any period of time....

As a knitter, I loved all of the knitting jargon. The mystery was fluffy mindless summer reading!

I'd give this one 2.5 stars if there were half star ratings. I've read a few other books in this series, and they are nice, light, quick reads. I was introduced to the series with an autographed copy given to me by a friend who lives in Fort Collins, CO (the "Fort Connor" in the stories). I visited the yarn shop featured in the books, so I feel a connection.
The stories are a bit silly, but they make for good airplane reading! And there's a knitting pattern and recipe at the back of each book. :)

I read one of the later books in this series and enjoyed it enough to consider reading another one... so I know the writing will improve somewhat. in this first entry, I found the characters flat and unlikable; there were many interactions where the dialogue/attempts at humor were irritating more than humorous (Kelly is asked to keep an older woman out of trouble and for some reason freaks out when she realizes the older woman has gone to flirt with a man in a kilt... let her live); the mystery itself seemed haphazardly assembled; and the pages and pages of descriptions of how to knit and what colors the yarn is and how the yarn feels and touching this yarn and that yarn were really a bit much. the confrontation at the ending was extralegal. it was never established that the police were incompetent, only that they were tentative about letting this random lady tell them how to do their jobs, so Kelly's complaints about the police made her seem out of touch with reality. the less said about the romantic subplot the better.

I might give this series another try, but there are sooo many books I want to read, so we'll see.

The writing in this one just didn't quite do it for me. An interesting murder. Interesting characters, that for the most part were likable, except for the random bits where they would interject something about dieting, or how a woman looked "mannish" and unappealing, or the quirky woman who has to be watched so that she doesn't embarrass someone by doing something like looking up a Scottish man's kilt (with his consent, to be fair, but still. It really didn't sit well with me). So ultimately I don't think I'll be continuing on, although I might check out something she's written more recently.

It’s not a very long book but it is very slow paced. It definitely felt like some of the knitting and shop talk was forced in there to pad it but it wasn’t done in an interesting or meaningful way. It felt like it took forever to get to the ending and then the reveal was done in 10 minutes.

I like listening to books while I work so it was an okay listen. It wasn’t terrible so if you’re bored I would say give it a read.
