Love the characters, loved the mystery, but struggled with the pouty romance drama. But seriously - the characters are awesome1

I really disliked this book and feel that I'm being generous in giving it two stars. Winnie Johnson, the protagonist and owner of The Emergency Dessert Squad, is quite frankly just dumb beyond belief. The clues are spelled out to the reader and yet Winnie just can't seem to figure them out. Also annoying is the constant whining and complaining Winnie keeps up over her would be boyfriend, Jay. They behave like two high schoolers and Jay seems to be a waste of everyone's time. Finally, as happened in the last book in the series, the murderer is someone completely out of left field who barely played a part in the story.

P.S. Not a clue why this is called Silence of the Flans. Although Winnie runs a baking business there is not a flan in sight.

This was a pretty good edition to the series! I think the only reason I didn’t give it a 4 is because Winnie was a little bit annoying! Only in the sense that she’s mooning over Jay when there’s a perfectly sweet Greg by her side!

I really love the idea of an emergency dessert squad....so to find out it was in jeopardy during this book actually made me sad. (And my biggest disappointment with this one was that there were barely any emergency calls. I know that was all a part of the story...but that why I love the series). I was frustrated with many of the characters in this story, but in a way that I'm sure the author contrived on purpose. I love Winnie's elderly friends and they were constantly cracking me up. I can't tell if a real love triangle is forming, but if it does I am absolutely rooting for Master Sergeant Hottie. Jay's lack of communication DROVE ME NUTS and caused so many problems that I am annoyed with him. As for the mystery, I definitely had the pieces in place before Winnie did, which means the author did a good job of subtly dropping enough clues. The ending was actually kind of anti-climatic, which is pretty unique for a cozy mystery novel. This is a sweet and fun series that I am looking forward to continuing.
