It was a long journey, but it was totally worth it. Even thought Victor Hugo rambles a lot throughout the book on various subjects, like the battle of Waterloo, I can say that I have never read anything like this. I feel like a completely different person after reading Les Misérables

It has been a long time since I've read it but each time I've reread it, the book becomes even more powerful to me. One of my favorite books ever. It is easy to get lost in the portions where Hugo diverges to explain some history, such as his description of the battle of Waterloo. But it is a great story of man's redemption and how love for others truly can conquer anything.

Christine Donougher's translation is the best I've ever seen. Masterful, accessible, great footnotes.

This was definitely worth reading! Yes, the book is rather long, but it is well-written, the storyline is great and keeps you reading, Hugo knows how to perfectly portray a character, and hey, the e-book is free! ;)
