I don't have words for this book. It's so masterfully written and so incredibly sad. I hope this devastating world doesn't come to pass.

At the end of the world, when everyone you've ever loved-everyone who has love you the most is gone, who do you become & what is left to live for?
This book is weighted with the shame of letting people down, generations of leaving and being left behind, guilt, abandonment, what it means to be loved for who you are, and forgiveness you can trust.
The hardest to chew on & most beautifully written parts of this book were addressing the choice to keep living. How hard a task that is if you've lost everything.
I think this was best addressed in the parallels of Franny wanting the terns to live while she was seeking out death for herself. In all this lovely novel, we are left with the strong message-
'Drag free of this endless drowning shame' and 'Look for the clues of life, they're hidden everywhere!
'What will happen when the last of the terns die? Nothing will be as brave again!
This book gave me so much hope and endless dismal despair.
(I loved it.)

My existential dread at living in a world where 80% of animal species have gone extinct is through the roof.
But it was still worth reading this book.
