This book was almost too dark for me to finish. I was incredibly uncomfortable when the main character started doing drugs with her 13 y/o sister. The author definitely meant for us to be uncomfortable but I was on the verge of not finishing the book over it and how much it made me dislike Camille.

I think people tend not to like this one because they expect a mystery and instead it’s much more character-centric. Like I actually predicted the ending, which is not something I’m likely to do. I think Gillian Flynn is skilled at writing fucked up character and, at its core, that’s what this mostly is. And it really worked for me.

This was my second Gillian Flynn book after Gone Girl, and I’m really impressed by it. While I did enjoy Gone Girl a little more, I really enjoyed Sharp Objects as well. I spent the entire book thinking that I had guessed the ending, only to be surprised when my expectations were subverted.

Everyone in this story is so disturbed (positive for the thriller). Heads up, though the violence to the victims but especially self harm is very graphic. If you have triggers about self harm especially cutting, please take that seriously into consideration before reading.

It was good! the writing was good, the story was good, i was just hoping for a bit more i guess.
SpoilerAdora having MBP was a little predictable, and the murderer being Amma was also predictable. It felt like a bit of a stretch on the authors part to try to make it seem like john or someone else did it. honeslty i would’ve been better if someone completely unsuspecting ended up being the murderer.
. All around it was good, just fell short in a couple ways.
