beatrice is a great character considering she hates men and this was written in the 1500s. it’s kinda undermined with the treatment of hero but i can understand that, given it was written so long ago. i can’t tell if i like the writing or not since i don’t usually read plays outside of assigned reading in high school but i found it really witty and fun overall! i hate claudio tho and beatrice + benedick stole the show for me

Much Ado is one of Shakespeare's best comedies, contrasting the witty banter of Beatrice and Benedick being tricked into going from not-quiet enemies to possibly deeply in love with the first blush of love at first sight between Hero and Claudio, and making a returning war hero into a barely redeemable villain. While it is a light hearted comedy, there are deeper themes in place, including cuckolding and women lying about their virginity (a serious sin at the time).

If you're not sure if you can make it through the play, watch the  Kenneth Branagh adaptation. It's very faithful to the original play in terms of dialogue and plot.
