Listened to it on Audible. Enjoyable, great narration, but a bit drawn out.

I really enjoyed this historical coming-of-age tale. It includes plenty of interesting female characters who help Amy grow on her way to cope without her beloved friend who rescued her from the snow as a baby.

What a delightful novel! The author writes with rich, descriptive language. The plot is wholesome and engaging. I think the little twist at the end could have been twistier if it hadn't been alluded to earlier in the book, but it didn't detract from the overall flow and enjoyment of the book. I also loved the epilogue. I often find epilogues are a nice wrap-up, but this one left me thinking, "well-played." This is the first book I've read by Tracy Rees, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

I love the concept of a Victorian mystery, especially since the mystery is a sort of treasure hunt; but the ending fell flat for me. This is a large book, but it reads so quickly that I barely noticed the length. I appreciated that the author was so detailed in her description of the journey. Each phase was entertaining and I wanted that extra descriptions and dialogue. However there was one conversation near the end that pushed my feminist button and from there the plot seemed to drop and suddenly close. Still, entertaining and I would be open to reading the author's next novel.
