The author: “I always want my stories to be about love, and light, and making sense of hard times, and getting back up after life has knocked us down. I always want them to make us all (me included) laugh and swoon… and give us something wise to hold on to. That’s never been more true than with the Bodyguard. I thought about it so often during 2020: How much laughter matters. How much hope matters. How much joy matters. How the right story at just the right time can lift you up in ways that feel like a rescue. That’s all writers can really ever hope to do for readers: invent stories full of all the magic we’re longing for ourselves. I hope your time on the ranch with the Bodyguard did all the soul-nourishing things for you that it absolutely did for me.” - Katherine Center.

A small snippet of a very extended Author’s note in the back of the book. I love this! The author’s love and enthusiasm for writing and trying to please us readers jumps off of the page. And what she hoped this book will do for readers, definitely was the case for me.

“The people we love help teach us who we are.
The best versions of who we are, if we’re lucky.”

I enjoyed reading this book so so much! I am a sucker for the Bodyguard trope, so that’s what lured me in at first, and once I was fully emerged in the story I just kept falling more and more in love with it all. There’s family drama, there’s suspense & a really funny and swoon worthy romance development. The chemistry between the Main Characters was utterly entrancing. Loved it. This was a kind of book that I could’ve read endlessly, without there ever being an end to it haha.

A fun first Katherine Center read for me, that definitely makes me want to dive into more of her work. Read this on Kindle, but will want a copy on my shelves as well for a future re-read!

“I think just because you can't keep something doesn't mean it wasn't worth it. Nothing lasts forever. What matters is what we take with us.”

This was a fun and cute read. I wasn’t expecting to read it in one day, but here we are! If you liked Sandra bullocks miss congeniality you’ll love this book. A bodyguard romance to fill all of your early 2000s romcom needs.

I thought Jack and Hannah were a super sweet couple and I loved reading them get closer together. Their shared experiences with grief, her protection job and his charming personality were the perfect mix to bring them together. I really enjoyed this and highly recommend it
