I was at an event for work, and read this to a group of school kids. They loved it.

A great book for kids.

A must read for middle school kids.

The Boy (8) has really enjoyed these books as well as those in the middle school series.

What I Did Like:
-Jaime. He continues to be a great character with a lot of personality who just has a great outlook on life. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and he’s a genuinely good kid.
-Friendship is center stage again. Just like in the first book in this series the kids are shining examples of how to be a good friend to people.
-Serious stuff. I enjoyed seeing a few serious things pop up in this one that had to be handled. Again, it’s a good lesson in how to view things in life and how to overcome hardships. There’s also a great opportunity here to have a lesson on priorities and accepting defeat.

Who Should Read This One:
-4-7th graders who love a good joke.
-Teachers looking to drop in lessons about sticking to your dreams.

My Rating: 3 Stars. This is a good book and for the right reader it would be exactly what they’re looking for!

These books are awesome. Lovable character, great story. A bit predictable, but amazing. My kids at school love them!

One of my students, a very bright student, told me that this is her favorite book, and that she has read it more than once. She won a prize at an event in our library, and when I asked her what book by Grabenstein she would like to have, autographed, she requested this one.

I did find this one a little funnier than the first one (even the jokes were a bit better) and I liked the fact that even the Smileys have some redeeming characteristics.

I will get more copies of these in our library; I think they have some redeeming qualities, and there is nothing at all wrong with our reluctant readers being drawn to these.
