Perfect amount of mystery and suspense. Vivid writing and details made me seriously cringe at times. Signs of an awesome writer.

Wish I could give it negative stars. I couldn’t even stand continuing this past the 11% mark. I’m so over the Will-Sara soap opera. The books used to be good where the crime and investigation was the primary focus and the drama (which I never loved but could tolerate) was a minor background story. But recent books have brought all of this junior high “does he love me, is he keeping secrets, she whispers things so filthy he can’t swallow” nonsense to the forefront. It’s a constant issue and takes up so much space in the book. I’m done with this series. I’ll try her stand alone that hopefully won’t get so bogged down with the teeny bopper emo romance that these do.

This book was great! This is my second Karin Slaughter book and I dig her! The themes are very dark. A lot of terrible things happen to people who don't deserve it but then even more terrible things happen to people who do. The story is tightly woven and suspenseful. It really kept me on my toes. It's a little farfetched that all the people in the story would have such interconnected lives but it makes for a hell of a ride and I could not put it down. I recommend this book if you like a twisty mystery/thriller that also has character development for days but you'll need a strong stomach. Good stuff!

Karin Slaughter delivers another rough, raw, psychological thriller, littered with difficult topics that reveal more specifically why Angie Polaski is so damaged and, unlike Will Trent, unable to compartmentalize her past. As is typical of Slaughter's writing, the pace is fast, the construction precise, the descriptions painful, and the twists and turns dizzying. If there is a weakness, the Sara Litton character is not as strong and confident as in other novels in the series.
