I thought it was decent, it's super gay. The violence against women is hard to take, and there's less agency of women than in other books I've read by this author (Circe). Otherwise, it's a pretty decent read. And it's gay af.

4.5 🌟 I am not a huge fan of the gay lovers in a novel but I felt like this was really well done. It had the romance but not in your face about it. It had the action, the war, and the blood but not so much that it made you sick. It had the Greek mythology all while creating a new world in and of itself.
I can’t say that I loved this as much as others did but what I did love was the story telling. The author made this into a fantastic story with the world building and the dialogue and all of the above. I was told that this book should be absolutely taught in school. I’m not so sure about this being a whole class type of novel but could definitely see during high school Greek mythology as a book club choice.
Overall, it was a great book. I don’t think our main character should have been with Achilles. Achilles did NOT deserve our main man!!!

I wish I could forget everything I read and read it all again for the first time. This book was AMAZING. The writing was phenomenal and I swear I was crying, laughing, and clutching my hands out of anxiety. This was a rare beauty of a book. I can’t wait to read her other works !

Okay this was the second time I have read this one - only I tried it via audible this time around. The narrator was amazing with the many voices he spoke and I realized how truly poetic and lyrical the writing is. Still one of my favourites.

If you can’t count on the gays to fight Troy, you can count on them to be dramatic.
