Actually so creepy and a genuinely enjoyable read. Just wish the last chapter didn’t feel so rushed when the rest of the book was so detailed so not quite 5 stars.
Also max is literally the worst

Adam Nevill is one of my all time favorite horror authors. This is the third book I’ve read by this author and was not disappointed!

Kyle is an indie documentarian offered the deal of a lifetime: to shoot an exclusive documentary with never before interviewed members from the gruesome Last Days cult. As Kyle and his friend Dan interview ex members and slowly begin unraveling the truth behind this cult the less likely they are to survive…

Ghosts, cults, possessions, and the mix of lore that Nevill is so gifted at make this another must read in my opinion. If you’re looking for some fast paced, lore centric, truly terrifying horror I’d recommend anything by Adam Nevill.

a slow, tense read. definitely builds up in tone and suspense; and being written as a pseudo-film/documentary about a defunct cult that's still haunting its 'apostate' members in more ways than one was unique and helped to break up the main mystery being explored into digestible pieces. the tone really shifts in the last 100 or so pages, and a lot of plot points are kind of crammed together at once, but everything before that is solid enough to carry the chaos that was the ending.
