I read many books and although I like the majority of them, it isn’t often that I decide to write a review for one. This is one of the few exceptions so far. I’ve had an interest in genealogy for a long time now and this story does a fantastic job at making a family tree come alive in a way that most genealogists could only dream of. The author’s descriptive language and historical accounts, tied together with a modern day story (it is basically two stories in one book) had me hooked from the second chapter and I couldn’t put it down. It’s not easy to make me cry... but this book had me tearing up a couple of times. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Now I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

It took me 4 chapters to realize I had already read this. That's how memorable it is.

I truly couldn't imagine myself enjoying a romance novel, but because this includes historical fiction as well, I loved it. I have to admit, however, that I listened to this as an audio book, which is a completely different experience. For example, the narrator does a wonderful job of using a Scottish brogue throughout the book for several characters, which made the story come alive. I can't imagine reading most of these parts.

I loved this book, as long as you can make the leap of believing in 'genetic memories' it is completely worth the read.
