I wanted to read this book after seeing Robinson's TED talk, but this book felt like it was trying to cover too much ground in not enough space. His history of how we got where we are was interesting, but I felt the book lacked a bit on solid things I can do to start to make our culture a more hospitable place for creativity.

Lots of interesting historical nuggets and thoughts on the education system but not particularly pointed or actionable. At times I had no idea if this was a well research opinion piece, a business book, personal development book, parenting advice or book for educators? I think a critical editor could have done a lot with the ideas and research included in this book but unfortunately in its current presentation fell flat with me and was a bit of a slog (despite having many highlights to come back and ponder later).

While the book does get a bit better and more actionable towards the end, if I wasn't reading this with a book club I honestly don't think I would have finished it.

My school's summer read for faculty. It was an interesting study of creativity, how our current educational model stifles it, and what needs to change to make things better.

Too theoretical for my taste. Focus was also on how formal education isn't leading us to be creative. It looked like it was leading to what other sorts of education / training help us be creative but I abandoned it after the first 100 pages.

Ken Robinson was a brilliant speaker but a terrible author. This book was all over the place with no rhyme or reason and no real conclusion.

I love Sir Ken Robinson. He's one of my main influences. BUT this book is terrible. First, the title is misleading. It won't teach you to be creeative at all. A more appropriate one would be "Why we need to be creative?". That's the whole book: painting the general picture of why we needed to rethink traditional forms of education. Sure, he painted a general picture but it's not a good picture. Each and every chapter, I'm looking for something .that'll go in depth. I finished the book and I didn't find what I was looking for. Disappointed. I'll give him another try but if that also ends up like this, I think I'll just stick to his talks.
