a fucking masterpiece of a book. written super compellingly - i finished this in about one night!! i could not stop! clarke does such a great job of balancing a light-hearted sense of childlike wonder with darker themes and tones. it's really hard to talk about this book without going into major spoilers, but just know that this book has been highly awarded for GOOD REASON! do yourself a favor and just dive into it!!

(p.s. as an ex-grad student this book scared the absolute shit out of me)

I absolutely adored this book. ‘Piranesi’ was such an amazing and like-able main character!

The atmosphere and mystery in this story were phenomenal.

SO UNIQUE!

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke deals with the struggle of becoming trapped within your mind and distracting yourself with illusions, making the outside world seem unreal. This, basically, is Piranesi’s road to recovery in a fantasy aspect, while he deals mental illness and isolation. (Unknowingly/In this fantasy metaphor sense)

The only thing that stopped me from rating this 5 stars, was that it was a little boring/slow at times. It was very brief though, and I loved this book.

A solid 4.5 stars, please read this!

the beginning felt very slow, but then it got suuuuper interesting. i was totally captivated by the story. sadly the ending felt again flat… i still believe it’s a brilliant book though, and i do recommend it.
