I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

It took me bit to read this.
Although the plot and writing style were really good and gripping, I found myself putting the book down and pausing reading at specific points in the story because it either hit a bit too close to home, or was pretty horrific to read, or because I am sadly a people pleaser and the MC Vianna is the polar opposite the way she talks and thinks. I admire that and strive to be more like that but it was excruciating sometimes how little of a fuck she gave hahah
Also, excellent witch-vibes, if you like that aesthetic or vibe with witchy stuff and magick, I can definitely recommend this to you!

My favourite characters were:
Vianna, of course
Shuck , the family's familiar
Spoiler who took over the house (if you saw Encanto, Shuck is like a gruffer Casita)

Dee,
Spoiler Vianna's trans bestie-to-be

and
Gray,
Spoiler the stoic but nice policeman who does not make enough appearances in the story, hopefully he'll come back!

TW: MC gets nearly SA'd twice, some characters purposefully deadnaming a trans character, violence and gore

I was worried that this book would be super corny, considering that it takes place in Salem, but I enjoyed it. I like the diverse characters & the storyline. I read the sequel right after & enjoyed it as well. Hopefully the 3rd book will come out soon

I just finished Legacy Witches by Cass Kay and here are my musings.

Vianna Roots has come home but it’s not for a happy occasion. Her mother has died and she has inherited the family’s haunted house. She has no money so flipping it and selling it is high on her agenda and the only reason she is staying for a while. Unfortunately Vianna’s gift of seeing ghosts isn't allowing her to do this in peace.

When Vianna finds out her childhood friend is dead and that her mother killed her, she is drawn into the why and attracts the attention of the oldest coven.

With an unlikely friend in a transgender outcast witch and the demon familiar that seems to have attached itself to her, Vianna has to figure out what happened and fend off the dangers that swirl around Salem and seem to be heading straight for her.

Not going to lie, I was obsessed with this book from the second I started it. Total fangirl now and I cannot wait for book 2!

I don’t know where to begin because it was all fabulous!! Let’s start with how the family history was bloody and had no qualms in killing for their needs. It was one of the reasons why Vianna fled her family. Not because she wasn’t talented, but because she couldn’t take what her family was.

Loved the friendship between her and Dee. I loved Dee right from the first moment she was introduced. An outcast transgender witch with a heart of gold, my favorite.
I loved Vianna’s house!! A demon familiar that went into the house and bonds with the witch who owns it, I LOVE IT!!

The whole story was amazing, Vianna did what was right and stayed to fight for what was right against a rival coven and the atrocities they were doing. The ending was so good that I cannot wait for book 2.

Thank you @casskay for being my fav read of the year and to netgalley for getting me my review copy!

Op zich vond ik deze wel leuk, maar het verhaal gaat eerst vrij langzaam en dan is het snel over. Ook wel fijn dat romantiek en relaties geen prominente plaats hadden in dit boek.

Thank you NetGalley and the author for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first ever witchy read! I have never dappled into the genre and didn't have much of an interest, so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this book. The characters were likeable and the plot was interesting. The writing is very good and pulls you in immediately. I thought it was a good book, especially if you like paranormal and witchy themes.

I really loved the beginning and the ending for this book. There was a lot of information in the middle that seemed kind of stale to me but I do understand that it was necessary to get to a great ending. Keen to read the next book in the series.

I particularly liked the sass of Vienna towards her mother 👌🏻

Not a fan of hoo doo stuff, and from what I have read it will probably still be in the next book..

Love Grayson, hoping this is a love interest 😬
