I loved Ruth Hogan’s first novel The Keeper of Lost Things so am delighted to say that this book lives up to it. This book follows Tilda in two timelines – we see her as a child as she’s struggling to understand the loss of her father and her struggling mother. This alternates with Tilda as an adult in the present now interested in re-visiting her past in the wake of her mother’s death. I really enjoyed this book, it’s very much character driven and you really get to understand Tilda and why she is the way she is. Through the novel we’re introduced to a wonderful cast of characters including the fabulous Queenie Malone! This book is a really emotional read at times but it’s also fun and beautiful… and there are plenty of surprises along the way too! It really captures life and I adored it. I recommend this one!

When the story ended I was like what just happened. The story jumps from when Tilly was young to when she is an adult. It tells us what happened between her mother and her and her father but I had a really hard time flowing this plot. I listened to it on audio and I don't recommend doing that as I think it was part of the reason I was so lost by the end of the story.

It was ok... would have made a better poolside read. It was interesting, but not my favourite.

This book follows the story of Tilda/Tilly throughout her childhood and adult life. She feels disconnected from her mother, but learns that maybe things weren’t as they seemed when she was a child.

An eccentric read, with lots of description, making you really see the environment the characters are in. The problem I had with this book is I never felt connected to the characters. While I did enjoy the oddities of the book, I can confidently say, I won’t pick up another of this authors books.

This had really strong parts and some weaker parts. After reading & liking 2 of the author's books, I'll definitely keep going through the others

3.75 stars. Another cute story by author Ruth Hogan, though I don’t find this ending particularly satisfying.

I'm glad this was a short book and I was able to read it quickly so I don't feel like I wasted my time. I just didn't vibe with this one really. As usual I didn't refresh my memory on what it was actually about before I jumped into it, which was a mistake this time. I can't handle too much tragedy happening with kids and there's a lot of that in here. The whole thing was just very melancholy and I feel like I need to veg out with some Parks and Rec to get back on track.
