probably my least favorite of the four, but still fun. All in all a good series!

Not my favorite of Hale's books, but I did come to like Rina quite a bit by the end.

It’s funny, I started off every book in the series thinking I wouldn’t like it as much as the others but each one won me over. Each of Shannon Hales books of Bayern have a lovely down to earth energy that brings me right back to my childhood. Each of them are also so original from the others. While we still get to enjoy characters and aspects from each of the previous books, they each are unique and bring freshness to the series. This was probably my least favorite of the 4 but still so wonderful.

This was a kind of a tough book. The first third was almost all internal monologue. And Rin was a bit of a whiner in her own head. But it built upon itself. And it was an earned hero's journey. This book begins feeling like it was just bolted on the side but in the end it was light the rest of the series was just written just to get to this book. I'm not sure this will hold up to a re-read, but in some ways it makes me want to read the first book again.
