This is fairly standard fair for the DC SuperHero Girls series, so let's skip to the highlights of this volume. First, the various comic styles are brilliantly and creatively executed by the art team. Well done all! Second, the disability and mental health representation in this volume was a pleasant surprise. Not only are the heroes helped by a girl in a wheelchair, but several main characters admit (without shame) to struggling with mental health and going to therapy.

I bought this on a whim because it looked cute and most of all, Lois Lane had an arc! Even better—it was a journalism arc! I loved seeing her featured as an integral character to the story. Despite the sexism thrown her way, she used her intrepid reporting skills and support from her superhero friends to expose the truth. Of course there were other shenanigans going on but the reason why I enjoyed this story so much is because it had Lois taking down the bad guys with her most powerful tool, the written word. The arc was a great reminder of what good journalism can do when used effectively and with responsibility. Plus, seeing Lois as a reporter with her iconic drive for the truth is always fun for me. Though the target audience is for young girls, I think those who are older can also appreciate the friendship and message found in Date with Disaster.

I am really enjoying reading this series with my daughter and for a few weeks they have been her preferred bed time story. Her favorite at the moment is Summer Olympus but before then it was Final Crisis. We have only read this one once together but we both really enjoyed it.

It was good that characters that have mainly been in the background before (Star Saphire and Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern) got their time in the spotlight and having the secondary story all about super pets was a lot of fun for my 5 year old.

This had a reasonably clear and not convoluted plot which made it perfect for her but at the same time there were lots of good character moments she could relate to.

There is a really good line in the story from Star Sapphire in that she hits back at people saying she is a spoiled brat in that she says no-one puts that claim against her brother although he is just like her.

[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

This was a fun addition to this series. These stories are lighter and sillier than what you will find in the Lisa Yee middle grade novels set at Super Hero High. This story in particular hits a lot of those silly notes. The solution to the runaway comic characters might get groans from some readers, but I had to chuckle. And the whole story took a more serious tone when the characters talked about mental health and seeing a therapist to help them with the ups and downs of being super. It was a nice and unexpected message in the story. Fans of this series will get a kick out of this one!

***I was provided this ARC by Netgalley for an honest review***

The graphics were really cute and the girls were adorable but the storyline was just blah. I lost focus several times and did not want to finish the story. I have never really read comics before and this one did not inspire me to start. Tha being said I do believe that young girls would like it and could relate to the characters and the issues in the story. I would recommend this story to my niece to read.
