I always knew the story of the puppet named Pinocchio whose nose grew long when he told lies, but I don't remember reading the full story. Must have read an extract or possibly one of those colorfully illustrated children's books though. Next, I have to watch the Disney adaptation...some day!

SPOILERS Ahead. Consider yourself warned!!

Pinocchio is the story of a naughty puppet who longs to become a human boy. However, his antics always lands him and his family (the puppet-maker whom he calls Father and the fairy whom he calls Mother) into impossible scrapes. However, the story has a happy ending. Pinocchio learns from his mistake in time and starts taking care of his parents. So at the end, his lifelong wish to become a real boy becomes true.

There's not much to say that hasn't already been said. It's a classic children's tale, however wether you'd want to read it to your children in the 21st century is another matter..

I was surprised how dark this book is (especially compared to the movie!)

First of, Jiminy cricket is killed INSTANTLY by Pinocchio. He gets LYNCHED. Jepeto is thrown in jail and later is drowned. A small child that Pinocchio considers his sister "dies"..

Dark book, but I'm glad I've experienced it.

Wil I share it with my children? Probably not. I don't think it's aged well, despite it's message being a timeless tale of "Be yourself, and do not follow others towards destruction."

I've never seen the Disney movie or any of the others, so all I really knew about this was the fact he was a puppet who became a real boy in the end and his nose grows when he lies! There was so much more going on here! I loved the writing, and Pinocchio definitely embodied a kid who doesn't know any better and just keeps making mistakes while worrying his parents will give up on him!

Not only is he forgetful and foolish, but Pinnochio is actually a pretty big brat. These aren’t the only things different from the story we all remember. The cruel and unfortunate events within the pages of Pinnochio are at times truly disturbing and lead me to ask the biggest question: who would have ever thought it was a good idea to turn this into a kids movie?!

I bought this book on a whim because it was a nice, compact story (translated from Italian, which intrigued me) and I’d had no idea at the time that it was really the source material for the story. I went on this ride with little expectations beyond thinking it would be a convoluted version of our Disney classic, so I was really surprised to see how ridiculous it was. It wasn’t an outstanding read, but it was also something extremely original that kept me wanting more.

Leggerlo nella versione originale con l’italiano dell’epoca è tutta un’altra cosa. La storia che tutti conosciamo, che però dovrebbe essere gustata così, senza i mille adattamenti che troviamo in giro. Simpaticissimo e scorrevolissimo

I listened to the dramatized audio version of this book. It was kind of short.I like it all the same, all the cast did a great job to do the justice.
