These books by Lisa and Francesca (we’re on a first name basis) make me laugh and sometimes cry. I am enjoying my way working through the series.

This book is hilarious, I was literally laughing out loud while reading, driving everyone around me to ask what was so funny! Although, my husband didn't think it was too funny that I was laughing at night when I should be sleeping...and he was trying to sleep!

This is a book of short essays about everyday life, but told in a way that brings out the funny. I could relate to so many of the stories, my favorite being about the Fitbit. If you're looking to laugh, this is your book. I read in just a couple of sittings, but this is one you could read here and there when you're looking for a tickle to your funny bone.

Though this book was not my favorite, if you are looking for a light summer read, this one will make you laugh. Lisa Scottoline and her daughter, Francesca, share funny stories about their lives that I think most women can relate to. I loved the short chapters and felt like I was reading a mother/daughter blog.

I only liked portions of this book. Care to guess why, given the info that I have read Lisa's writing before and not Francesca's?

If you guessed that I didn't like Francesca's portions, you'd be wrong. I didn't like Lisa's, because of her writing style. That surprises me just as much as you. As mentioned above, I've read Lisa's writing before and I don't recall that it was her writing style that I disliked about her books. But in Does This Beach Make Me Look Fat?, Lisa writes in a very choppy style that would be more appropriate for a conversation or perhaps one or two different vignettes in this book, rather than ALL of them.

For example:
I just got back from a book tour through ten cities - including Las Vegas.
Jackpot!
Remarkably, I had never been to Vegas before.
I was a Vegas virgin.
How did I get to go to Las Vegas on a book tour?
I'm lucky.

It's like that. The. Entire. Book. I mean, Lisa does write longer sentences, but she does the thing where she starts a sentence with "and" a lot as well. That's something that I do, I'll admit it... but that is more in blog posts or Facebook updates... not a book that I'd want to get published. It's lazy writing, it's way too choppy and outright irritating, and it makes her look bad as a writer. At least, to me. Like I said, it is a conversational style that would be far more appropriate to speaking rather than writing.

I enjoyed Francesca's perspective and writing style far more. She wrote with better style, in a more elegant writing style (though that would not be difficult to achieve...).

I didn't find this laugh-out-loud funny, but it was a good distraction at times. Not sure to whom I'd recommend it, though.

Listen, I really want to love everything that Lisa Scottoline writes...but it is so hard to sometimes. If she were a jerk in person, I would probably give this book 1 star...as it stands though, she is amazingly personable and I kind of love that she's taking her daughter along for the ride. Self deprecating humor is just not my thing...I'll keep reading everything she writes though...because supporting someone who believes in female friendships as much as Scottoline does makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book read like you were a best friend having coffee. The stories were light and fun for the most part. A mother daughter duo and you can see the similarities. The stories were short and not in any particular order.

I saw one of my friends read this and thought I'd pick it up. It's not truly bad, just not my cup of tea. It's also apparently the 6th in a series, which seems mostly irrelevant having read it: It all comes off as a bunch of randomly selected blog posts turned into a book. Like journal entries to an audience, written to be funnyish. (Think puns.)

It comes off as a supremely easy and disorganized way of writing. It's not practical like a self-help book, and written all scatteredish, except for the faint idea of it being chronological. But there are some minute snippets of wisdom to be found, especially for women.

All in all, I was relieved when it ended 43 pages short. (I was counting them down now and then, and I never do that.
