Fascinating and morbid. The illustration are incredible and the history intriguing. Overall, an enjoyable read that will make you gasp in a mix of amazement and horror.

Cue all of the feels! This book was so interesting, horrifying, sad and also just made me so grateful for modern medicine.

The illustrations are clear, colorful, and are arguably excellent teaching tools.

Before there was photography they hired artists to draw different stages of of disease. Along with the artwork is brief history of different diseases and the cures that were discovered.
Having these drawings/paintings helped with drs diagnosing to treat people and for med students to help them and see and understand various diseases.
If you have a weak stomach or have curiosity for the morbid media I don't recommend reading it.

I really didn’t think I was squeamish until I read this. Fascinating but disgusting I must say it’s unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s mostly about the illustrations but the information given is also very insightful. Really grotesque but in the best possible way.

Once you get to skin diseases this book really kicks off. A must for any lover of art, anatomy or history...if you can handle it.
