My wife bought me this, I think partly as a joke and partly in the hope it would contribute to the on going (15 years in now) educational program she has me on. Those of you who already know Tim's column from the Guardian newspaper will enjoy this, and so did I - taking great delight in reading out choice passages. "Hold on", my wife would say, "this is NOT teaching you to be a better husband!". No, but part autobiography and part dictionary of husbanding it is funny, does help you cling onto sanity in all the insanity of family life, and there is the odd morsel which would certainly have been of interest to me 15 years ago, although I can't think of anything in particular I hadn't already figured out by now. I especially enjoyed his treatment of pregnancy ("wife having a difficult pregnancy? Suck it up!"), sex ("I can only talk about my own experience") and hobbies (to maintain his own sanity he learns the banjo, frittering time and money in a way his wife would never have approved of). A good giggle if you like Tim Dowling, check his Guardian columns first.
