I did the audiobook for this second part the Lunar Chronicles. I continued to like the sci-fi take on these traditional fairy tales, Scarlet being Red Riding Hood. I really liked how the characters take on a little more edge than they have in the story I grew up with.

There is one element that comes up often in book series' that really just kind of bothers me, and I don't know why it does. But it came up in Scarlet. The element is this: the first book is told from on person's point of view (i.e., Lunar Chronicles #1: Cinder is told only from Cinder's perspective). But then in subsequent parts of the series, the story is told from multiple voices. I guess that's kind of necessary in this situation, because the 2nd book is about a new character, but at the same time Cinder still has things going on that are important for the reader to know about, especially as Scarlet's and Cinder's paths do cross. However, there are also bits in this book from other characters' perspective.

I guess I just like consistency in my book series, so telling one part using one technique, and then using another technique in the next book just bugs me.

I buddy read this with my sister Tamrah in 2021.

I really enjoyed this book. It was great to be back in the world of the Lunar Chronicles and Marissa Meyer’s writing is so digestible that it was a very quick read. Although, I understand why this book was written the way it was, but I may have preferred it to focus entirely on Scarlet and having Cinder show up later. But it was nice to see what is going on with Cinder after what happened after the first book.

Overall, a great sequel and very excited for Cress.

Once again totally solid! I enjoyed this more than the last one I think? Though maybe because there was less of time mooning over the prince and Scarlet and Wolf moved along at a good clip. The romance didn't feel recycled between books at least!

I'm intrigued to read on. If I didn't say it last time then -- this series and the quality of it -- should be the baseline of ya sci-fi. This is exactly what I want from this genre -- it's just sad that all to often it's much much worse. The bar has to get lowered too much.

As much as I loved this book there are some things that I couldn’t ignore. Like why Kai, being the emperor, talked as if he was chatting with a friend (¿?). Or the cheesy line at the end about the “female alpha”

I listened to part of this one with J on our way home from Chicago. I read the rest when I got home. This one wasn't a favorite. I loved Cinder but I wasn't super impressed with Scarlet.

Scarlet's grandmother has been missing for two weeks. She has reported it to the authorities in her town but they think she's ran away. She's not exactly known for being sane. Scarlet knows somethings wrong though. While delivering their vegetables to one of their customers she meets Wolf. He's odd but there's something about him. All Scarlet cares about right now is finding her grandmother. She KNOWS she didn't run away despite all of the clues pointing to that.

I did love that we still got to see what Cinder was going through. Scarlet did grow on me but she's not my favorite. IKO is lol!! J said the reason I didn't like Scarlet is because she's like me, hard headed and strong willed. I suppose that can be true. We get to see a lot of progress in the fight against Levana and then some back slides. I am so enjoying this series and I'll be sad when its over. It is complete so y'all should check it out and let me know what you think! If you've read it who's your favorite or do you have one?
