I'm not sure where to start here... This was not what I expected at all! I can't exactly explain how this is a 5 star read for me because that youl spoil the entire book - even if pretty much everyone knows what the story is about.
What really sold me on this was exactly that: I thought I knew the story, and in a way I did but it goes so much deeper. The POV it's written in + the way the book and chapters are structured just keep you guessing until the very end.
The writing is amazing and easy to understand and follow; considering when it was written, and there is a bit of wordplay and even some humour in there (though I'm not sure if that was intended).
What I loved the most is that it doesn't leave any loose threads, the last chapter answers every question - even those I didn't think to ask.
The ending had my mind blown, in all honesty... I listened to the audiobook and had to repeat the last few minutes 3 times and I just absolutely loved it! Speaking of the audiobook; the version I listened to was read by David Barnes - and WOW that was a great choice! His pronunciation, accent and overall tone of voice was just perfect for this story. His tempo was a little slow but that rather added a layer of calm tension in my opinion.
It's a short (audio-)book at about 3h, and would be at 2,5h at 1,5x speed without sounding odd, according to other comments I've seen. Aka it wouldn't be a big waste of time even if you didn't love it so I'd still highly recommend it!
If I did go into the story more I'd probably still sit here tomorrow so I'll leave it at this: there's many more layers to the story than I thought and the more I listened, and the more I'm thinking about it now, the more I figure out and it's still mind boggling to me!

What a brilliant story.

This is a tale that is well known by many, and also somewhat polarizing about a lawyer and his friend Dr. Jekyll and the mysterious and unusual events that happen around him, often dealing with a man named Mr. Hyde. This story details the events and investigation into them.

I wasn't so sure I was completely sold on this at first, but once I reached the end I realized the brilliance of it all. I loved the philosophy and really thought-provoking nature of this book and the suspense was excellent.

This is definitely one I plan on revisiting in the future.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a perfect short science-fiction based story. The novel was a perfectly fine read which I enjoyed, but nothing jumps out to make it an amazing read.

At this point, I think everyone has heard of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde so it was only a matter of time before I picked it up. I was intrigued by the idea of a man creating an alternate, corrupt persona to contrast his kind nature. There are so many potential messages you can pull from a story like this so I was excited to see how it turned out.

At first I felt pretty disappointed by Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I know it's gothic horror so I wasn't expecting it to be too exciting, but I found the investigation of Mr. Hyde and his connection to Dr. Jekyll dry. There was little suspense, and while this is partly due to the fact that I already knew how the story would end, I didn't find Mr. Hyde as repulsive as he was supposed to be. A lot of emphasis was put of Mr. Hyde’s appearance and ornery nature as indicators of his moral depravity, but little evidence was given.

The second part of the book was told from the perspective of Dr. Jekyll, which I found much more interesting. I loved seeing Jekyll’s decline from an upstanding man exploring a different side of his identity to losing control over who he was.

I’m glad I finally got around to reading this novella. While the first part of the story was a bit tedious, I think the last part made up for it
