The story between River and Rain continues in this sequel. River and Rain are torn apart as Rain's best friend from childhood, Roman, is back in his life to help with the threats that Ted is making. Roman being back stirs up some serious emotions for both River and Rain.
There are so many secrets. You learn more about Rain's history and see more of what a terrible person River's dad is. You learn about a whole new world that both boys are interconnected to. You sit on the edge of your seat. At one point I realized I wasn't breathing! You learn that love is messy and hard and worth fighting for.
This book was about 99% of a steep, uphill climb. I cried. I CRIED. It is so so good.

I don't even know where to start, this book was heartbreaking mess.
I never readed book that got me that emotional and angry than this one.
When the author said listen to her warning, she was fucking serious. Book two is even more emotional then the first one.
The way this characters made me feel is beyond me. I was left confused, angry, heartbroken and happy at the same time. Words can't describe how i feel right know, but one thing i know, I'm glad the book is over. I never ever felt more relieved then when i readed their epilouge and the two words "the end". Don't get me wrong, it's not like i didn't like the book it's the emotions i feeled while reading and the relief that washed over me when everything miserable in their life was over.
Never in my life would i guess that fictional characters actions would make me SO angry especially Rain one of the mmc. I was so so angry at him but at same time emphasized with him, but what he did to River was beyond me and i must say his groveling wasn't enough for me. I connected with River in the first book right away even with his snarky comments i know how it feels when someone suddenly doesn't like you for whatever reason in his perspective it's his sexuality. River was different person the second book and i feeled the pain from him radiating. Rain, Rain, Rain what to do with him. He left me heartbroken and disappointed at the same time. I know his trauma and i feel his pain that doesn't excuse the fact that he implied pain on River. From this is really know that I have "Love/hate" relationship with Rain's character, i was so angry at him almost the entire book especially with the shit he pulled with Roman.
And then there's Roman who is officially on my shit list right when he sexually assaulted River who was i must say out of his mind hight as fuck. It's not like he raped him or anything but it was assault regardless and i was more angry that Rain didn't do shit, he was standing there frozen like an idiot. That was the chapter when I knew Roman was going to be big problem. Every time Roman was in the chapter he manege to pissed me off with his words and actions. I never felt more hatred towards a character. I didn't even pity him for his one sided love towards his "best friend" because he could stayed the night everything happened instead he choosed to left him in the most critical and confusing part of his life right after he kissed him. Like who does that?? And then when Rain needs his help after four year's of no contact you would say he moved on, but no instead he's being total dick to River. The way this man is delusional is laughable. And don't even let me started on how selfish that motherfucker is, the things he thinked when River was shot?? Discusting.
I'm still kinda wrecking bell whith pent up anger, why i must torture myself with this kind of books i don't know, but in the end everything is how it should be and I'm glad they got their happy ending.

Initially, I was going to rate After Rain Falls by C.E. Ricci a little higher, but now that it's been a few days, I honestly can't even remember 75% of this book.
I will say, I enjoyed it more than book one. A lot of the issues I had in book one weren't present in this... but unfortunately, a lot of new issues arose in this for me that really hindered my enjoyment.
The things I didn't enjoy: the miscommunication trope. Dear god. 350 out of the 440 pages are miscommunication. I am not joking. That's the MAJORITY of the plot. As a reader, this choice always feels like a cop-out and character assassinates your own love interests. A liiittle bit of miscommunication is fine and realistic - for it to be this ridiculous is insane... and it was for nothing! The lying by Rain to protect River literally doesn't even matter because he ends up being stupid and putting River in danger anyway like 5 times! Gaaawwwddd.
After spending 900 pages with these characters, I was hoping to fall in love with them like others have, but it just didn't happen. I can't even say I enjoyed the ride because for half the 900 pages I was bored. There were highlights, but those were quickly overshadowed by obnoxious writing choices. I know Ricci wanted to paint a toxic relationship and sure, she succeeded, but as someone who loves a toxic relationship in books, I came out at the end feeling disappointed.

There's so much more angst in this one that I really don't know how to justify River and Rain being together, with the amount of hurtful words they fling at each other, although we know it's supposed to be for a greater purpose (in the name of protecting the ones they love). But it didn't have to be that way, to go down a path where pain is inevitable and suffering seems to be the only solution.
I really almost gave up, especially feeling River's downward spiral. But the way he kept fighting despite all signs telling him that it was a losing battle, was commendable. River's refusal to quit Rain was foolhardy at best, and frustrating at worst. Especially when they have hate sex. The amount of times Rain blowing hot and cold was giving me a whiplash that I almost wished that he ended up with Roman.
But I didn't read 900 pages for that.
This book would have gotten a five star from me if some parts weren't repetitive and draggy, especially I do not see the need for a full explanation of the Enclave. That is better left for another series. And speaking of the secret society, The fact that those secrets were spilled among friends, was hardly plausible for me.
Otherwise, this is a decent read if you're in the mood for a good crying.
