I read this as part of a book challenge because it was less than a hundred pages as required.   I did not expect to like it but, as is often the case, I found it interesting and engaging.  It was not the spousal abuse or alcoholism that caught my attention.  Though they were vividly explored themes.   It was the author's journey to understand his mother and her life choices that spoke to me.
