Very cute friends to lovers rom-com. Barely any spice but still enjoyable.

Overall a fun read, but would have liked more character development at the end.

This is a really cute book that centres on a group of 5 friends (4 guys and 1 woman).
SpoilerMillie keeps everything in and does not talk a lot about herself, communication is a struggle for her. One night Reid and Millie hook up and they treat it as a one time thing (even though it happens 2 more times). Mille and Reid have terrible communication and spend most of the book dodging their true feelings for each other. There is a big event coming up where Obama is the key note speaker and the 5 of them decide that they should all have dates. They set up online dating profiles, but secretly Millie sets up two. On her secret profile she ends up matching with Reid and starts an online relationship with him as "Catherine" (yes, she catfishes him). Eventually Reid figures it out and it blows up in her face. This book does end in a HEA. I was really frustrated with all of the miscommunication between Reid and Millie when they knew how they felt about each other. Millie's is pretty immature/closed off through most of the book, but I do appreciate that some growth is shown.

This was very sweet and lovely—good old identity shenanigans, and a beloved friend group found family situation. Plus, the main character was born in Bellingham!!

I am surprised at how much I liked this! I really enjoyed reading about a group of friends who all work in academia, since I can imagine working there someday myself. I have also often found myself as the only girl in a group of guy friends and I quite liked how this was portrayed in the book. What really struck me was the amount of emotional depth hidden in this simple romantic plot and how much I could identify with Millie's struggles.
SpoilerBeing open has never been one of my strengths and I have often avoided talking to friends about my feelings in the past. I am glad this story reminded me to try to change that more often.

Excited to pick up more by Christina Lauren in the new year :)

Update 3 years later: This book is still a personal favorite and I can still relate with Millie soo much.
