2.5 stars. I have really enjoyed the authors other 2 books so I was a little disappointed when this book didn't follow suit. As usual she brings up good interesting, moral issues but the book felt predictable and a bit contrived. Although it made me look at my life and reflect on my feelings of where I am with my children, marriage, as a sister and daughter. Overall it's an easy book to forget though.

Many different characters get a glimpse into each other's lives and then they are all changed, some for the better, some for the worse.

The premise is interesting but I found it frustrating that the characters didn't really talk to each other about real life.

Much better writing than her first two books. We'll done a bit depressing but thought provoking.

Made it halfway through this before giving up. Told from multiple perspectives of neighbors in NYC, there were just too many changes in narrative for me to stay connected to the story.

Multilayered plot and characters I'd like to meet. This novel was an accurate portrait of New York City, and a realistic if exaggerated depiction of motherhood and marriage. Would make a great movie.

The author's unhappiness and bewilderment of adult entrapment is very evident in this novel. She normalizes that many people pretend to be content with stagnant shadows of their forgotten hopes.
