"you're the devil, he tells me, quite amicably.
i love you, i tell him in return."
— GODDD I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!! this book is insane. ohhh this reminds me sososo much of the film the piano teacher, how being starved from love and intimacy can bring you to acting in depraved ways like a famished animal. how the main character allows herself to be taken advantage of simply because she wants someone to take notice of her and desire her. its gut wrenching and the language of this book describes those thoughts PERFECTLY!! i couldnt put this down and i wouldve finished it in one sitting if i could
definitely on the stranger and darker side, i wouldnt recommend this to everyone but if you enjoy media like the piano teacher you will eat this up (lol)
Graphic: Death, Sexual content, Sexual violence, and Gaslighting
Minor: Domestic abuse, Eating disorder, Self harm, and Suicidal thoughts

If you enjoyed reading Bitter Orange you will enjoy this book. It felt strangely similar at times. I liked it enough to read it all in one sitting but I wouldn’t pick it up again, nor do I think I would tell anyone else to read it.
I was incredibly disappointed that Violet and Élodie never hooked up. I realize that thematically, the ending made sense, however I was crushed hearing how cruel they were to her. Perhaps I am the gullible one for thinking they were ever interested.
Graphic: Body horror, Death, Emotional abuse, Infidelity, Physical abuse, Sexual content, Blood, Grief, and Abandonment
Moderate: Animal death, Body shaming, Bullying, Drug use, Eating disorder, Suicidal thoughts, Vomit, Pregnancy, and Toxic friendship
