I love anthologies, but I cannot say this book will stick with me after reading. Most of the stories are interesting, sure, but there feels like something is missing that you can’t quite find. I felt like stories were meant to have a deeper meaning, but finding where that could be was challenging, even more so with the levels of absurdism so high.

I would recommend it as a quick read, with some fascinating stories. Especially for those wanting to dip their toes into some absurdist, strange, slightly experimental literature with little commitment.

3.5/5 maybe? I don't know for sure.

This book contains a bunch of weird stories. I usually like the magical realism thing so I rolled with it. I didn't find it so weird that it's good, though. It was plain weird for me.

Alissa Nutting is a beautiful writer - her word choices are playful and poetic. But I found these stories to be aimed at shock value with outlandish premises, and then when it came down to the nuts and bolts of the story, they were devoid of emotion, depth and purpose. I saw potential in Ant Colony but it took a disappointing turn. If I were to pick the stories I enjoyed at least a little bit - Deliverywoman, Cat Owner, Cannibal Lover, Dancing Rat.
