This was... CREEPY!!! & incredibly interesting, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole read and I didn't even know what to make of the end! It's suspenseful, engaging, artfully drawn, and even terrifying in some places. This is a manga that you won't be able to stop talking about once you pick it up. This is so much more than just a boy's love manga, and it shows but the romantic implications of this story only make the consequences even more dangerous! There's a lot that could be theorized and puzzled about, and I cannot wait for the next volume to be released!

This was sweet and a lil spooky. However, it reminded me too much of Summertime Rendering so I don't think I'll continue the story.

the artwork was genuinely beautiful (towards fhe end esp when hikaru goes demon mode). I loved yoshikis slow realisation that there was something deeply wrong with hikaru and the sort of like panicked denial he feels .,, there were some genuinely creepy moments (“I’m already inside”)

the like country accents were a bit difficult to get used to, and i think there were some plot beats the felt a bit random (old lady giving him the rundown at an american restaurant) but overall i give it a fuck yeah/10 and i’m very excited to read the next one ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

-I MIGHT DIE YA’LL! I MIGHT DIE!
-don’t look at anythin’ but me 😐
-I’ll jus have to make sure no one else takes you….
-SORRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYY 😰😰😰!
-…. I’ll show ya what’s inside me! 😃
-you’re….. kind of warm
-I’ve never been touched there before 😧
-guess we’re gonna die…… gawd, spare us…. even though we ate them..
-Ew… wait no. Maybe it was kinda awesome.
-WOAH! HE’S NOT LAUGHIN’ AT MY FUNNY FACE!

This was one of my most anticipated mangas of the year, beating out several volumes of JJK and MHA, and boy, did it deliver! An amazing story of friendship, love, loss, and slow creeping-horror, this manga has it all!! The horror elements slowly seep into the narrative adding to the overall eeriness of the story as no one but the main character seems to have realized that something is wrong. It also is one of my favorite horror sub-genres of rural horror with a lot of the horror aspects based around rural folklore in Japan. My other favorite aspect of this novel is the central relationship, which some sites say does develop into a BL narrative, which would be amazing in my opinion. While we get flashbacks of the relationship with between our main character and the real Hikaru, the focus is on the relationship between Yoshiki and "Hikaru", which really delves into the question of "what if your best friend came back wrong? what would you? would you accept them? would you reject them?". Overall, I would highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next volumes!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
