an accessible overview of feminism. well, as far as something talking about derrida and freud-inspired psychosexual weirdery can be accessible.
only minor issue for me was that there's no mention of solanas and of the "feminist sex wars", but that might be because i have Specific Areas Of Interest.
oh and also if i never have to read about people talking about fucking oidipus again, it would be too soon

This is an excellent introduction to the history of feminism for people who aren't familiar with it.

Read for class. I personally really enjoyed this text and how it presented various feminist theories. It provided great explanations and overviews of various types of feminism. Normally I would give this text five stars, but it's mixed presentation of radical feminism with different theories about pornography was disappointing. I wish more information about feminist conflicts in pornography and the feminist porn wars and how the MacKinnon-Dworkin doctrines effected radical feminism would have been explored.

A wonderful account on the main streams of thought in feminist philosophy and, I would say, pragmatism. Definitely a great starting point, and by the way, an important one for everyone to read, because I am sick and tired of one equating "feminism" with activities limited to opening the door for oneself (which is not a feminist thing but just good manners that men should possess). I can now see how flat, stereotyped and stupid the popular connotation of the word "feminism" is and how deep its struggles are. Of course, not all people can be philosophers, but it seems to me that 80% of population does not even have the simplest reflective powers and abilities.
This is one of the best books I've bought for myself, because it is also an introduction, though very concise, to many other crucial themes such as psychology and Freudism, existentialism, postmodernism, philosophy of economics, etc.
