technically this took three months to finish because i started reading it in like September and then put it aside bc long form fics aren’t really my thing but! I get why this is like maybe the most popular fic in the fandom. Idk if its my personal favorite but it’s still so well written and plotted, it’s incredibly impressive. Can’t wait for when it’s officially published as the hurricane wars!!

I've been a fan of this author for the past couple of years, and have been following this fic since day 1 - it is absolutely amazing (like everything she writes) and I've recommended it to several friends to get them more invested in the SW fandom. It's a SLOOOOOOOW burn with such a great payoff at the end. Peak romance novel vibes with space drama!

Yeah, it's fanfic, but it's 3 or 4 novels'-worth of amazing fanfic! And I've been reading like 3 days straight. This thing has 500,000 reads and it's totally worth it. Going down with this ship, lol. I'm glad someone had the presence of mind to enter this into goodreads. Also a million points for details, research, characters, and lemons.

*note: I don't read much fanfic (though if I'd discovered it younger, who knows who I'd be now, especially since I wrote piles of it in my head as a kid/teen) - so take this review with a grain of salt!*

Finally read this because a dear friend loved it and raved about it, and thank goodness, I can still trust said friend's taste! ;)

Overall, I enjoyed it! The characters are mostly familiar, and tbh, it felt like a comfort considering what I know of the last canon SW movie. Some twists and turns (though I'm not sure all were necessary) and satisfying tropes kept me moving along, though - dare I say it? - I think there was a bit too much sex in it for my preference. I started to get a tiny bit bored - it just interrupted the pacing for me, and while each incident did seem to try to impact the rest of their relationship, it sometimes felt a little repetitive. And this thing is LONG - maybe part of my relief at the final battles (other than the tension) was that I knew it was coming to an end!

The main thing that decreased my enjoyment, though, is that I do think that Rey's characterization is off. I get that the story was trying to portray her maturing (politicking time!) and then coming into her own (oops went too far, now to find the middle ground!), but I thought she became comfortable with fancy ballgowns and all *gestures at everything* too easily, and she becomes very teary in the second half. Kylo's characterization was more consistent, I think.

While there are many references to particular blasters, space ships, etc, a lot of it really does feel like a historical romance; I eventually got bored by the extensive descriptions of Rey's clothing. I can see it being more fun in a serial mode of reading, especially where you can click to see the inspo, etc, but I was reading it on an ereader and it really slowed down the pacing.

(also, lol at how it riffs on LOTR and
Spoilershe sees her and Kylo's child running toward him in the hallway and he picks her up and oh yay, we might have a good future!

Overall, would I recommend? Yeah! Especially if you like romance, Star Wars, historical romance, any kind of combination of the above.

I also strongly recommend listening to a Star Wars playlist while you read it - there are even some Landscape with a Blur of Conquerors ones on Spotify. :)

A KRIFFING MASTERPIECE. LWABOQ is story with worldbuilding greater than you could imagine, a plot for the ages, and heart wrenching romance with beautiful spice. Might I say it was one of the best books I’ve ever read? I’m definitely adding this to my “elite” book list. This book is a MUST-READ for anyone with a brain.

Now that it’s taken off of AO3, I’m curious if the author will tweak it and officially publish it as a non-Reylo. Even if the plot will be basically the same, will I still read it? … Yes, I definitely will.

Not a massive star wars fan but the book was pretty amazing and one of the best reads this year. The research that went into this book is immense as it is 2500 pages of such good world building.
