Te best of this series so far, what kept it from being 5 stars for me was the dialogue. Don't get me wrong- dialogue is what Ms. Quinn does better than anything else. That said, I'm pretty sure she and her characters have picked up on that, and there was just FAR too much dialogue InThe beginning of the book. Really, the first half needed a bit more setting and emotion for me.
That said, the romance was very believable about halfway through the book- these characters actually fall in love, not just insta-lust, and the satisfying and exciting ending pushed it from a three star to a four star for me.

This was not my favourite Julia Quinn novel though it definitely improved for me from about halfway in.
Our hero Hugh did not begin this novel liking his lady-friend Sarah describing her as being overdramatic and a milllllion other similar things. Usually we then live with the lady in question and realise that his perceptions are all wrong, however Sarah seemed to live up to Hugh's assessment. She was overdramatic and silly and selfish and so unlike the regular and likable Quinn women.
Having said this, Sarah grew and developed and I loved their eventual relationship, glad that they ended up together - as if they wouldn't - and actually liking the novel as a whole. I just wished that the novel had started in a more positive way.

This was not my favorite Quinn. I liked the characters and their tension, but the plot was convoluted and confusing. The end really felt mostly like a mess that was never really necessary in the first place - it felt like if you looked too closely the whole thing just fell apart. It’s too bad, because I found Sarah to be one of the most compelling female leads Quinn has written.

Sarah and Hugh, have a lot of wit and banter. They are “enemies to lovers” thrust in close proximity. What can I say - I love a good trope.
