A difficult but necessary read. See What You Made Me Do is a meticulously researched, accessibly written book about domestic abuse in Australia. Jess Hill discusses how the patriarchal, misogynistic culture in Australia contributes to domestic abuse, and how our government and legal systems are failing victims. There are sections on women, children, men, and Indigenous communities that shed a brilliant insight into an issue that effects far too many Australians. This book highlights how urgent this issue is with stories that are upsetting, tragic, and rage inducing. If you can read this book, you should.

If you read no other book this year, read this one. It’s an eye opening report of domestic violence around the world. If you think domestic violence “only” happens to strangers or that it is “only” physical and they should just leave, this book was written for you.
Admit your ignorance, as I did, and read this book to learn what it is you didn’t know. And once you know, look around you, see what change you can make in the world.
