Three stars for this one, which means that if you like the genre, you might light this one. The problem is I don't know what the genre is.

Is it a thriller? Not much action there, so I don't think so.

Is it suspense? There's really no mystery unsolved, so no!

Is it original? I give you that. It is an original story; one of which I've never read anything like it before. points for that.

I'm surprised this book was one of the top mystery novels of 2019. I guess 2019 was really another time. I'm not sure what the mystery even is.

The story is certainly original. Dark? Questionable. I mean, sure, the sister is a serial killer, and keeps killing her boyfriends. You know that from the beginning, and that's about it.

I found the cultural aspects of the book to be the more interesting part. The story happens in Lagos Nigeria, and looking at the portraited culture there is interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the book, but I don't know what the fuzz is about, and certainly is not a mystery.

Trigger Warning: Murder
My Sister the Serial Killer follows Korede who has been helping cover up her sister's crimes of killing men. When her next target seems to become the doctor that Korede has a crush on at her work, she has to work to try to stop him from being her sister's next victim.
I went into this book not knowing what to expect. The cover really caught my attention and the title really intrigued me. I wasn't sure what I was getting into but I LOVED this book.
First off, this is a short book with very short chapters so it's a book you fly through. The writing in this book was absolutely stunning. I thought that there was so many beautiful lines in this book. In this short book, Oyinkan Braithwaite really made me feel as if I knew these characters. She did an amazing job of writing this story and making sure we fully understood the story completely.
I thought the plot was so interesting. The author did a fantastic job of showing us the reason why these girls may have ended up how they are. I really loved that there is this conflict in the story for Korede and I even felt conflicted for her when it came to the climax of this book. I really loved that this book was also set in Lagos, Nigeria.
I really loved this book. It's one I can see myself re-reading just to see if I can pick up other hints or different things in this book upon a re-read. I am so glad I picked this book up. If the premise interest you, please pick this book up. It was totally worth it.

I want to give this a 3.5 because its good; the writing is great, the characters are well thought out, and overall the book is a solid read. Entertaining and filled with moral issues to be dealt with.

But...

This is not a mystery/thriller. This carries the vibes of a contemporary family drama between two sisters being forced to decide if they will pick each other over a man no matter the consequences. It just so happens to be that her sister is a serial killer.

I will say I'm not really into family drama stories, or ones about sisters in general. So that's not helping. I also went into this knowing nothing aside from the giveaway title and that its a well read book in thr community.

I feel bad for disliking it as much as I do because if my reading tastes were different this would be a 5 star read. I did enjoy reading about this culture that's so different from the western world. For me that was the best part.

I liked the brief explorations of social class and sexism but overall I was not particularly impressed. Maybe I'm missing something?
