To me this is the point in which the wheels of Tokyo Ghoul actually start to run. This is one of the best volumes on the whole series just because of the amount of depth it gives to SO many characters: Ayato, Jason, Amon, Touka, Kaneki, the old man... Noro... In retrospect, some narrative seeds were SO obvious but so easy to overlook. (Kagune monster.. Arata armor... Owl...... What? What.)
Some notes:
-Ayato is like if a boy was a tsundere. I will not give further explanation. :3
-It was wholesome to see so many Anteiku-adjacent ghouls work together!! ( ◜‿◝ )♡
-It's so funny to me how Suzuya was a pivotal point for the CCGs assault yet probably had the lowest kill count...
Instead of stabbing 173 ghouls 1 time, he stabbed 1 ghoul 173 times, THAT'S dedication. They should buy him a new set of trinkets.

This volume is ruthless and brutal, with simultaneous battles happening alongside flashbacks. As we learn more about Touka and Ayato’s past, we see what has caused them to splinter and go their separate ways, and we meet the new side of Kaneki that has emerged from captivity & torment - especially with the interaction between Kaneki and Ayato.
As this arc comes to a close and we gear up for the next one, we are left with more questions than answers, feeling just as incomplete and uncertain as the characters do. Kaneki is forging a new path, the mood is bleak and curious, and relationships between characters are forever changed. Or so it seems.
