I was interested in this book for the most part until I got to a certain point where Regan is possessed and saying all sorts of horrible things to her mother and the doctor, I think, that's there and the things she said and what she did, I just found tremendously disturbing. So I'm good.

There is a reason this pops up on all horror lists. It's kind of timeless, I found little that aged it. And if I'm this disturbed in 2022, I can't even imagine how people reacted in 1971. I also highly recommend the audio and was shocked to see Blatty narrated the majority of it himself (with some small parts for little Regan). Absolutely chilling, I didn't want to put it down which made for some creepy nighttime reading.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting to. I am not a fan of The Exorcist movie, but I was recommended the audiobook multiple times so I finally gave it a try. It was great and the narration by the author was amazing. I love how much he fleshed out the characters before everything starts to go down hill— it made you really care about what was happening to them. The downsides were that I absolutely couldn’t stand the officer, and the ending was just a really underwhelming ending for a book that had been so enjoyable up until then.
