Big Terrible Thing indeed. Addiction is a horrible disease and I never would have guessed Matthew Perry had it so bad. I guess it’s somewhat obvious in hind sight, though. I can absolutely picture the weight fluctuation he attributes to the different substances he abused while shooting Friends over the years (I was/am a diehard fan. I still cry every time I watch the episode where Monica proposes to Chandler. Every. Time.) It’s honestly amazing that he’s still alive, and I applaud the bravery it must have taken to put his battle with addiction out there for the masses in such a raw and honest way. That being said, I found the book repetitive and occasionally hard to follow, as the timeline jumps around a lot without any warning. Also, I’m not gonna lie, he comes off as a bit of a jerk at times, especially with that unwarranted Keanu Reeves comment. Jerk-ish comment or not, I wouldn’t wish Matthew’s struggle on anyone. I’m glad he survived himself and seems to be in a better place now.
