A beautiful fable about a beautiful mother hen. Sprout's character shines through each decision she makes throughout her tale creating a sweet and heart-warming reaction from the reader. I loved the humble and soothing context of the story, which still contained powerful discourse on motherhood. With sweet illustrations and characterisation, this was the perfect read for a weekend in nature.

"That's all there is to it. We look different, so we don't understand each other's inner thoughts, but we cherish each other in our own way. I respect you."

Slow and contemplative; fable-like in its composition.

Great book about: grief, loss, loneliness, hope and not being afraid to live your life whatever that means for you and not caring about norms. It's about finding peace and strength in yourself.
The beginning and ending of life and how both are necessary. It's about a mother, who's "child" is more or less the only life purpose and the lonliness of that. Also the loneliness of being left out and pushed away, because you don't "fit in". But also about pushing past that and finding your own way and showing courage.

this book reads like a fable - how the author manages to do that i have no idea. the hen who dreamed she could fly is darker - or rather, more realistic - than i expected, and though i feel like there should've been at least a lil more happy moments, i like that it's able to somehow make me feel emotionally affected at times, and how it doesnt cut corners.
