The plot and narrative themselves were pretty interesting. There was a good balance of memoir-type material, story action, and Einstein history. However, there were weird racist undertones to the narration. Whenever the author (who also narrates) would describe a person, he always specifically stated their race (even if he couldn't possibly know for sure) - unless that character was white. It leads to this odd contextualization that this man sees whiteness as the standard, and everyone else needs a disclaimer. A lot of these non-white characters felt like caricatures of real interactions, rather than slightly dramatized or true to life as I would usually expect from creative nonfiction.
