Listen. This book is a political masterpiece. I loved every second of it. I only marked it down because there were a lot of terms that were made for this book and not real words that never received a definition. I had to pull apart from context what they are and for some of them it took a while.
I loved the main characters and anguished when they anguished, rejoiced when they rejoiced. The ending was exactly what I expected and I loved every second of it. I felt so much reading this book. It is worth every page of the 900 pages.

This was recommended by way of Felicia Day for great world building and being sooo sexy. Initially, I almost dropped it because the beginning veers close to gross child grooming with the main character being so young. Although the author clearly can't write child characters because I would forget that the she was 7, not 17. Entirely too much time spent on this age.
Things do get better once it gets past that, although I wouldn't consider it a racy book by any means. The sex scenes seem tossed in, like the author remembered she meant for the book to be risque. Honestly, the story would be fine without them.
I started enjoying it more as the world progressed and more fantasy elements were introduced. I might continue the series but I didn't end the book with any sense of urgency to move on to the next one.

This is very much an epic. Though we stay with the main character Phedre, there is a lot of detail about a lot of people that I mistakenly tried to keep up with. If you like lots of details to keep track of you might just love this book.
