Second books are hard and I think this one does well for how much it tries to do. The first third drags, but if you make it through, you’ll remember why you’ve come to love these messy characters (old and new) and Clark’s unapologetic way of writing on complex topics in a way that is heartbreakingly human. Can’t wait to see how this series wraps up!

I was so excited for this and the character work on Touraine (love her, Ill read book 3 for her) and Luca is still stellar. But with Touraine separated from the compelling relationship with her mom, and the overwritten new Sabine character I was lost. The plot just never picked up, and never let Touraine live up to the cutthroat people’s hero she is.
