This book started with the funniest chapter of any book I have ever read. The main character, Gilda, is instantly loveable. Which made the rest of this book detailing her depression and anxiety so much more painful to read. This book was so so lovely but at times repetitive and darker than I was expecting so just be aware of that. Otherwise a wonderfully crafted story :)

Is the funny actually in the room with us? I didn‘t spot it anywhere.

The Introduction in this book calls it „darkly funny“, „delightfully awkward“ and „pitch-perfect observations about the human condition“. I disagree with all of that.

I never understood what was going on with Gilda‘s brain and her thought processes and found the book relentlessly depressing and anxiety-inducing.

The first few pages of the book are not representative for the rest of the book.

I would only recommend this book to people who want to read about someone who is deeply depressed, anxiety-ridden, in constant panic attacks and who thinks about killing themselves
on nearly every page
.

I do not recommend this to anyone who is in a mental health crisis or who struggles with their mental health in general.

The only reason I‘m not giving this book one star is because the first few pages weren‘t bad and I was moved a bit during the last few pages.

1.5 stars
